Portal Into the Mind

The Starseed Experience

Explore 'Portal Into the Mind,' a Beautifully Chaotic Art initiative — an innovative, immersive exhibition where Austin's artists and community converge to create a captivating experience through visual art and performance. Embark on a transformative journey of empathy and self-discovery, celebrating the diversity and unity of human experience.

Mission and Focus

Manni Mora is creating a captivating book that centers around the enigmatic character Starseed. Readers are invited to embark on a profound journey with a lost soul navigating the intricate labyrinth of the human experience, akin to delving into an intimate personal journal so immersive it almost feels forbidden. Originating from Manni's paintings, each stroke on the canvas captures something unique, transcending the realm of art to forge deep connections, share stories, and even evoke tears among viewers. Through Starseed, Manni has developed profound relationships with individuals across the city and in the digital sphere.

As Creative Director, Manni is set to transform this narrative into an evocative pop-up immersive art experience in collaboration with a creative collective. As visitors step into the world of Starseed, they will encounter a series of zones, each unfolding with its unique theme and complemented by thought-provoking art exhibitions. The event will feature live performances by talented artists expressing their interpretations of love, heartbreak, and sexuality. Attendees can also retreat to the void room, where a DJ will be poised to elevate their spirits and incite movement.

The Concept

What sets "Portal Into the Mind" apart from other art exhibitions in Austin?

"Portal Into the Mind" distinguishes itself by offering an immersive journey into the human psyche through the narrative of Starseed, a unique approach in the Austin art scene. This interactive and transformative experience diverges from conventional art exhibits by engaging participants emotionally and intellectually, fostering a deeper connection with the art.

How does Starseed's journey resonate with Austin's community and cultural ethos?

Starseed's journey mirrors universal human experiences, fostering a sense of shared humanity. This resonates with Austin's diverse and inclusive community, aligning with the city's vibrant cultural ethos and promoting a space for collective empathy and understanding.

What unique experiences do the themed rooms of the exhibition offer?

Step into the mind of Starseed, a genderless entity on a quest to understand human existence. Journey through space in a metaphorical 'big bang'’ experiencing a series of emotionally themed rooms – each a chapter in Starseed's evolution into humanity. Experience the rooms themed by Grief, Love, Heartbreak, Healing, and Sexuality, each offering unique insights. Don't miss the Void – a space for reflection, music, and rejuvenation.

How are the themes of "Portal Into the Mind" expressed through art?

These themes will be represented through traditional and innovative art forms, including digital installations, tactile sculptures, and performance art. Each element is designed to evoke specific emotions, encouraging visitors to engage as observers and participants in the emotional journey.

  • Joanna Baugbog

    Artist

Joanna's first entry into the Austin art scene began with a not so simple conversation around mental illness. It's hard to put the experience into words for people who have suffered. For people who haven't, it's hard to imagine. In 2020, she created her first mini-series, a six piece body of work that explored and visualized what people who struggle with depression and anxiety experience. More often than not, it's easier to empathize with what we can see. This led to her first showcase with Bodies of Work, followed by various showcases with Art Island ATX, Pietchhouse, Red Light Lit, and Convergent Arts. While she may explore a variety of materials, color schemes, styles, and techniques, the center of her work will always remain the same: capturing the weight of moments we all silently carry and making it visible.
